Model enthusiasts and families from across Berkshire gathered at Thatcham Memorial Hall on Saturday, 10 October, for the second annual Model Show organised by Ian Lyford from Newbury & District Hackspace, which proved to be another outstanding success.
The popular event attracted visitors throughout the day, offering an impressive display of craftsmanship, creativity and engineering. The hall was filled with a diverse range of exhibits from individual model makers and local clubs, showcasing the wide variety of interests within the modelling community.
Displays included everything from intricate Lego creations and classic Meccano models to highly detailed plastic kits, model railways, and impressive live steam exhibits. Visitors had the opportunity to admire the skill and dedication that goes into building and maintaining these fascinating models, many of which had taken hundreds of hours to complete.
One of the highlights of the day was a Warhammer modelling demonstration, where visitors could watch the pupils of Francis Bailey School at work and learn more about the techniques involved in creating and painting miniature figures. Experts from across the modelling community were also on hand throughout the event, providing advice, answering questions and sharing their knowledge with both newcomers and experienced modellers alike.
The friendly and welcoming atmosphere made the show an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages, with many taking the opportunity to discover new hobbies and gain inspiration from the remarkable exhibits on display.
Organiser Ian Lyford expressed his appreciation to all those who supported the event, including Thatcham Town Council exhibitors, clubs, volunteers and visitors, whose enthusiasm helped make the show such a success.
Following the positive feedback and strong attendance, the Model Show has firmly established itself as a popular fixture in the local calendar, and many visitors will already be looking forward to next year’s event.
